Absolutely, I couldn't agree more and really good point. Taking design back to a problem solving tool in a more general sense and moving away from a primarily visual definition is only a good thing in my opinion. After all, interface is more than just buttons and checkboxes on screens, it's about how we interact with the world around us in more human ways as you say.
